Prison 101 Tip #2

I have officially started writing the definitive book about the do's and do not's of going to and surviving in prison. My tip for the day is that if you are going into a jail or prison for any significant amount of time make sure you are wearing 5 layers of white short sleeve t-shirts, 5 pairs of white socks, 5 pairs of white boxer shorts or underwear, a pair of white or black sneakers preferably expensive in case you need to sell them but be careful, you might have to fight for them as well depending on what prison you are going into. You also need two grey sweatshirts with no pockets or hood and two grey sweatpants with no pockets as well. These sweatsuits aren't easy to find but I can suggest Walmart. The cheaper the better but you want to make them last as inmates are usually allowed only one clothing package per year including this exact amount and kind of items. Also included in a clothing package but not something you can bring in after sentencing, is two white shower towels and two white face clothes. Depending on the State, you might be allowed to get shower shoes sent in a package as well. If not you'll have to purchase them from the commissary. You do not, I repeat, do not want to go into a prison shower bare foot. It is a recipe for disaster.

Prison 101 tip #1

I am an author writing a new book about the do's and do not's of surviving a prison sentence and have extensive experience having served sentences in the State of Connecticut with a federal detainer. The first thing you need to do before entering prison for the first time is get your finances in order. You have no access to bank accounts or credit cards once inside. The only way to get or spend money is through your prison commissary account which can usually hold up to two thousand dollars depending on the state or federal facility. Keeping the amount of money you have private so that the corrections officers and other inmates don't know how much money you have is imperative. Drawing attention for any reason, especially financial, is a big no no inside. There is always a commissary or store in every facility that you purchase everything through. From writing supplies to food, everything goes through the store. Nothing is allowed in from the outside world except letters and sometimes a clothing package consisting of two grey or white sweat suits, t-shirts, boxer shorts or underwear, socks, ect. Usually you can also keep the sneakers you are wearing when you enter the prison as well as long as they don't have any colors deemed to be gang related. This is a huge deal as inmates have a very limited selection of sneakers to choose from and a brand new pair of Air Jordans or Nikes can be worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars even in not so new condition. That is enough to feed you for the first six months your in unless you enjoy eating the free prison slop that's served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I will be posting tips from time to time but have an extensive knowledge of this subject and can help anyone who needs it one on one before it's too late. Once your inside that's it. You are entirely on your own.

Prison 101

I am creating a service designed to help those that are about to be sentenced to prison terms whether in state or federal prison for the first time and need to know what they will need to bring with them, what they are allowed to have, and how to survive inside. Periodically I will be posting tips on my blog about certain aspects of prison life. If anyone is looking for someone to help them to get ready to start a bid please leave a comment or contact me at joshzinewicz82@gmail.com for further assistance.

The Oscar's or the All Star Game?

As I sit in my living room typing this, I find myself flipping back and forth between the Oscar's and the NBA All Star Game. What is everyone else watching this Sunday night? We have the choice between over paid actors or over paid cry baby athletes. I am currently going with the actor's. At the very least I will be entertained by Billy Crystal and some of the comedians at the show this year. The most I could hope from the All Star Game is to become further frustrated with the current state of the NBA and become more agitated. Kobe Bryant and Lebron James wining and crying every time they miss a shot or get slightly brushed up against during a shot attempt is not entertainment. The NBA is a sorry bunch of over paid dirtbag athletes. Holy Shit, I just got a view of Chris Rock's new afro! He looks like Chris Tucker from the movie Friday only with a taller fro. Wow! See, the Oscar's is where it's at. I'm watching the Academy Awards, what are you watching?

Crime down in Connecticut casino area

Crime down in Connecticut casino area Now this article on the other hand is a poorly written piece of shit from a Newspaper that is known to just make shit up. Crime is down in Ledyard and Montville because there is nothing in those towns except the Casino's. It doesn't take a full fucking editorial to figure that out or any type of research either. The Cities surrounding the Casino's are another matter. The crime rate is less than it was before the Casino's came to town because they helped give allot of the people committing the crimes jobs. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun also cover up and turn a blind eye to drug and prostitution crimes. Believe me, I have solicited prostitutes in both Casino's and my Cousin and I sold Heroin in the poker room at Foxwood's in plain view of security cameras and everyone else, for over a year. Those are reasons the crime rate is down near the Casino's, not the actual fact that there is less crime going on then before they came to Connecticut. Reporters at the Bulletin are idiots, I know more about what they are writing about then they do. Do some actual research and investigate, then maybe the Bulletin will have stories people want to read and find interesting. How is it I know more about this then the men/women who report this shit and I haven't been in the world for the last four years? Give me a job writing for the Bulletin and I guarantee that articles people find interesting make it into the Sunday Edition. I'm just saying Norwich Bulletin.

The Day - When a drug dealer goes to jail, the state pockets his money | News from southeastern Connecticut

The Day - When a drug dealer goes to jail, the state pockets his money | News from southeastern Connecticut Here is the link to the article in the New London Day this weekend about assets seized from Drug Dealers in the New London County area. Some of the people taking the money, the Norwich Police Department for instance, are worse then the people they are taking the money from. Good article from a good paper. I suggest reading it.

If anyone has any information regarding this device or other options I should consider please post on my blog about it and I will be very grateful. Thank you and I look forward to reviewing this amazing looking item by Samsung.

Just saying hi to all my fucking fans out there. Fuck You!

Picture of Cross Sound Ferry

I have the pleasure of getting to watch these huge boats transport people and cars to Long Island and elsewhere everyday from my College Campus. My Wife was working on this particular ship when I was at school so I decided to wait for it to come into port and take a photo from Mitchell College. What do people in CT think of the Cross Sound Ferry?

Snowboarding in Connecticut

There used to be a ski area near Berlin, CT called Powder Ridge. I don't believe it is currently up and operating but when I was growing up in CT in the nineties this was the spot to learn to ski or snowboard. It just so happens my friend's snowboard shop, The Cutting Edge, was right down route 9 a little ways also. You could hit the shop for supplies then head right to the hill. My friends and I used to call it Powder Hill because of the mountain's diminutive size but I had a hell of a time learning to ride a snowboard there and at other places like Yawgu Valley in RI and Watchusett Mountain in MA. CT needs a place for kids to learn to partake in winter sports. Mt. Sunnapee and the rest of the small resorts in CT aren't cutting it. Powder Ridge had a snowboard park, halfpipe, and skatepark all in one at the facility and was in an hours driving distance from everywhere. I have been riding since I was 13 years old and my fondest memories are of places like these. The youth of CT deserve to have options growing up. Options outside of the usual recreational activities and sports. Not all kids want to play baseball or basketball. There are more and more skate parks popping up all over the state finally but I would really like to see the redevelopment of Powder Ridge. CT needs to give someone tax breaks or some kind of deal to buy the property from the existing owners or the state, whoever owns it currently, so that it can be used to entertain a new generation of little grom punks that want to shred the gnar. These pictures are from transworld snowboarding magazine, a subscription that is very cheap and will give kids an idea of what snowboarding is all about. Parents, take your kids to the mountain or the hill and teach them how to ride. Lessons are cheap, but equipment has gone through the roof since I was learning the sport. It isn't cheap but if you want your kids to get involved in something other than team sports this is your ticket. Online snowboard publicationsOnline snowboard publication of my choice

Connecticut needs a sports franchise

The State of CT is in desperate need of revenue and what better way to bring in some much needed cash flow than with a professional sports team? Anyone remember the Hartford Whalers? I do. A NHL team from CT would be a huge leap in the right direction. The market is here, all we need is a stadium, or fuck it, make em play in the XL Center if the state can attract owner's with a facility like that. Otherwise, build someone a fucking stadium. If you build it, they will come Connecticut. Bring back the Whalers!

People of Norwich

Come on people. I'm an ex-drug dealer trying to support my Family with my writing. If the parent's of Norwich don't start following my blogs I'm gonna have to go back to selling smack to your kids. Is that what you want? Huh? Follow my blogs and help me to be a better man. I'm trying real hard to take the high road but it's not easy people. I don't want to have to resort to providing your children with quality product because I can't make any fucking money due to the fact that I'm a convicted fucking felon. I'm a college student, and I support my family but times are hard. Norwich is fucked as it is. One more drug dealer isn't gonna make or break it but I just want to live a happy, peaceful, quiet life without drugs and having to deal with your scumbag kids stealing money out of your pockets to survive. It's a real pain in my ass every time one of these idiots had to bring me something of value they stole out of their homes or went to the pawn shop with to get money to buy dope. I don't need and or want all that stress so what do you say, huh? Help out an aspiring writer and blogger by following my posts and making suggestions about what you think and want me to write about. I have an extensive amount of knowledge about allot of different subjects. I am well traveled and well versed. If anyone out there gives a shit anymore, give your fellow citizen a hand. Thank you Norwich.

New pictures coming soon

If anyone has any pictures of anything in New London County they would like to see on the blog please don't hesitate to ask. I am an avid photographer and have pictures of lots of different cool shit. I'll be posting some new pictures of Mitchell College and Long Island Sound soon. Thanks for your support. I really appreciate it.

Mitchell College

I am a past and now again present student at Mitchell College in New London, CT. I have attended much more prestigious and larger institutions of learning such as Northeastern University in Boston, MA and even Central Connecticut State University in New Britian, CT but find the smaller campus and classroom size of Mitchell more to my liking. The College also is set in a picturesque seaside village close to Ocean Beach and a state park. The school boasts views of long island sound right from the classroom. That along with a lower student to teacher ratio and the fact that Mitchell is now a four year institution makes the school very attractive to students looking for a smaller college setting. My  cousin Jason, who is an executive for MGM Grand at Foxwoods Casino initially put me on to the school when it was mostly for people looking for associates degrees. He graduated from Mitchell and now I am trying to follow in his footsteps. The faculty and staff are friendly and very helpful. The price of tuition isn't cheap compared to similar schools but the one on one between teachers and students makes up for the school's lack of prestige to me. Since I last attended the size of the campus has grown as well. Mitchell has added a new building and bought up more of the surrounding land and homes, converting them into offices and classrooms. They have a top notch business program taught by local entrepreneurs that actually take the classroom into the community. Students are encouraged to develop local ideas and business plans that can actually be implemented by the school or the students themselves. Mitchell College business management majors run and operate Michael's Dairy Creamery, a local ice cream shop that does very well for itself once the warm weather brings back the seasonal residences of New London along with the tourists. The Cross Sound Ferry is in close proximity and can take passengers out to Block Island and Orient Point as well as to Long Island, NY. New London is close to the beaches of Westerly,RI and Mystic,CT and this area is well known for excellent dining and lodging. The Light House Inn in New London is a world famous establishment for dining and staying the night as well as for weddings. If anyone is interested in Haunted locations the Inn is extremely haunted and so are a number of other close spots. Ledge Light House on Long Island Sound is reportedly haunted by it's former lighthouse keeper. Mitchell has a close knit community where students in residence halls and commutes alike all help one another with campus issues. New students are always welcome with open arms and I for one can say I have enjoyed my time spent at this amazing school.Check out Mitchell College at the school's website
My best friend and his wonderful Mother whom I love.www.SCADD.com
Yesterday I briefly touched on the current state of the City of Norwich and the problems plaguing the once thriving City. I also mentioned the propensity for the youth of this area to not only use but sell the narcotics that seem to be everywhere these days. This is a photo of my best friend. He is currently incarcerated on charges of possessing and distributing drugs. My friend is not a bad person, he just has had issues with drug addiction and I am not about to pass judgement of anyone with issues of that nature. I myself am a former drug addict and drug dealer. If you Google my name I'm sure you can find out about my trials and tribulations in the drug trafficking business. Heroin and other opiates are running rampant over this entire state and have been for the last ten years. What does the State of Connecticut try to do in order to solve this problem? Lock up every single addict, and those with mental health and addiction issues, that they can possibly arrest. Now if anyone has been following the problems with the Connecticut Department of Corrections then you know how well this strategy has turned out for the almost bankrupt state. Prison populations are at almost twenty thousand inmates and the State can't support the numbers, at almost thirty six thousand dollars a year per inmate, and prison's closing due to lack of funding, things are coming to a head. There are also no long term drug programs left in this State to offer some kind of treatment for all these addicts. Drug addicts make up the majority of the prison population and are considered low level inmates and not deemed as threats to society. Why can't the state do something to get these people help? Programs like DayTop, Help Inc., and Brooklyn Bridge are fading fast and soon there is going to be no help or treatment at all for the rising number of drug addicts being arrested, convicted, and imprisoned. Once these men and women are convicted felons it is harder to rehabilitate them, educate them, and find them meaningful work that is actually going deter them from going back out and selling the drugs they live and die for. Take my friend for example. He tried to find work and only had misdemeanor convictions but with the poor state of the economy it was impossible for him to make enough money to survive. Desperation turns to depression, turns to using drugs to not deal with the depression, turns to selling the drugs to support the habit and make enough money to pay the bills, and ends up with arrest and conviction. People are always going to get high but there has to be alternatives to locking them all up. Prison isn't helping these types of individuals, in fact it is exposing them to even more addicts to network with when they are released. My friend doesn't deserve to be in jail. He should be in a fucking drug program getting the help he needs to rebuild his life and become a positive member of society. The idiots running this country and this State have run both right into the fucking ground. As the American Dollar declines and the countries prisons are packed full of now unemployable people, the economy will continue to spiral down the drain until our so called recession is a depression if it isn't already. Norwich needs to take it's proverbial head out of it's ass and take a look around at what is really going on. The Casino's haven't helped us at all. Quite the opposite actually. They attract the drug dealers from New York and else where that get YOUR children hooked who then have to sell the product to support their own habit leading them to arrest and confinement. There are alternatives to this fucked up cycle. Believe me I know. I am a former addict and a convicted felon who has been through the system and knows people on both ends of the spectrum. There are some good men and women out there trying to make a difference, like my friends at SCADD, but they are too few and far between. This Country and our City need to address the real problems of our citizens before we can ever hope to become what we once were. When I was a child growing up here and the City was prosperous, it didn't have these issues to the same extent it does today. Maybe that should tell everyone something. Hint, hint, wink, wink....

New laptop bag is roomy with lots of room for carrying everyday items.

My Father gave me this new Lenovo Thinkpad laptop carrying bag. At first it didn't look like much. Big, with two adjoining handles on top so it can be carried like a suitcase and a strap as well to be slung over one's shoulder like a messenger bag or backpack. Upon opening the black case I was pleasantly surprised to find a large selection of pockets and sleeves. Lenovo makes quality products, from laptops to apparently even the bags used to transport them, their products are durable. They are made to last and look simple, but elegant doing so. I really enjoy using this bag for college. I can carry my 15.6 inch laptop in the interior sleeve inside the main compartment while also fitting my textbooks in the same compartment. The sleeve for the laptop has a padded texture and feel as well as a velcro closure to keep your computer snug and safe. The bottom of the main pouch has a small rubber slit to fit your laptop into also helping to secure it for safe traveling. This bag has saved my very expensive laptop more than once. It works as far as protection goes, and works well. Zip pockets on either side have multiple inner compartments as well. On the front of the bag is a smaller zip pocket but it is deep and can fit anything from folders, to notepads, to pens/pencils,ect. I keep all of my separate folders in it and it fits them all perfectly. The other zip enclosure on the back is much larger. It unfolds to show a varying amount of different folds and sleeves for pens, pencils, and a velcro enclosure for small personal items such as wallets and passports. I keep my Sandisk cruzer USB storage device in it along with my Koss earbuds for listening to music while traveling on my smart phone or laptop. Inside this compartment is also a large zippered pocket made of a mesh material to fit a number of items. This side of the Lenovo bag also has a small zip pocket built into the side that is great for keeping smaller items. Both sides have sleeves built into the bag above and below the pockets for securing various things and there is also a large velcro sleeve at the top of the case for keeping smaller items that need to be fastened safe while moving or traveling. I really like this bag better than a backpack. I have used both and find this easier to carry as well as aesthetically pleasing to the eye. When you see it and touch it immediately you can tell it is a product of quality. Lenovo is an impressive manufacturer, from the companies laptops to this carrying case, everything they make seems to be of the highest quality.

Norwich needs development of downtown and allot more.

Norwich as a community is not the same as when I was growing up here as a child in the eighties and nineties. It is no longer a "good," place to grow up. Downtown Norwich and it's development have been featured in the Norwich Bulletin, a joke of an editorial, and needs much more than the men and women running these committees believe. If you idiots haven't realized it, there is nothing for kids to get interested in. Nothing bringing in any tourists, besides the casino's, and nothing generating any cash for the City. Just visiting a larger City, even a shit-hole like Hartford, at least you see places to eat, shop, internet cafe's, educational tools and museums. Norwich needs to be totally revamped. A entire make over if you will. A new generation of leaders must emerge if this city is going to survive further into this century. Do any of the so called intellectual elite of this entire County have a clue what is really going on here? Let me tell you what your children are really doing. The entire area including surrounding towns is saturated with drugs. Heroin, crack, and oxycontin. Your kids are junkies. Every street corner has a Norwich cop on it yet this area is no better off then it was when I was involved in supplying your children with their drugs. Not only are the kids of my generation and younger all getting high, but their parents are doing the same thing. Prominent business men, politicians, and Norwich Police Officers. Oh my God! How shocking and what a surprise! I'm not going to start naming names but you know who you are. I sold you your heroin, remember? Since the rise of the might Foxwoods and Mohegan Casino's, the only kind of development that has come our way is drug traffic and businesses that are fronts for drug dealers to launder their money. I ran such a business in this town. The people of the Rose City need to wake the fuck up and smell the poppy's. You wonder why there are multiple houses on every street with for sale signs in the front yard? The real estate market bubble bursting, sub prime mortgages and foreclosures, sure. But people want out of this City and they are willing to take a loss on their property to do so. Some of you know what I'm talking about but most of you are clueless. The area has zero job opportunities and guess what? None are coming! Anyone in their right mind is moving out, not in. Where are the internet cafe's with free wifi, where are the clothing boutiques and even designer stores, where are the museums and cultural institutions? No where to be found in our once fair City. Too bad, growing up here was beautiful. It was a safe environment focused on education and bringing up the children of the City to become leaders, not mindless followers. If this City is ever going to change, and I don't believe it is, the first step is new leadership. Attracting developers isn't the issue, it's finding new developers among the residents of New London County. All the wasted space in this City and no one is willing to take a risk by developing it. No one is coming to save us, no white knights are going to come to the rescue. If Norwich wants to be saved the people are going to have to do it themselves. Fuck You Norwich,CT!
