Prison 101 Tip #8

Prison is full of gangs and gang bangers. Joining one of these gangs could either get you killed or make serving your time much more difficult. First off the only people usually murdered inside prisons are rival gang members or rats. If you are neither you will probably be Just fine. Gangsters are constantly trying to take more control of one aspect or another of the ways to make money inside. Whoever has the money has the power and if another gang gets in the way they must be dealt with accordingly. If you do decide to join a gang there is usually only one way in and one way out. Getting initiated almost always involves getting jumped in or having other gang members best the shit out of you for a certain amount of time, usually a minute or so. Once your in you will have to perform a task or mission which will almost certainly involve hurting or trying to kill someone, consequently, if you want out of the gang they will kill you. Blood in blood out. Once your in a gang you stay in it for life. Just some things to think about before joining a prison gang. The other main concern now is getting yourself affiliated by the Department of Corrections. This means you are now a known gang member and your security level will be raised. You will have to not only serve your time in a maximum or supermax facility but also go through programming to denounce your gang affiliation. This usually is a Phase program followed by a trip to an SRG or gang unit until they lower your level and put you back in population. While doing your time in the gang unit or block you will have limited privileges and a higher security risk level. More than likely you will have to wear distinguishing clothing so the rest of the prison population knows your a gang member not that you will have any contact with them. SRG units house every kind of gang member and put them all together even going as far to house rival members in the same cell. DOC officials don't care if you kill each other, all that means to them is a little more paperwork.
