Hit the link in the description to head over to XDA developers for a cool new modification for the Nexus 4, if you have been able to successfully purchase one of these phones, and let everyone know how it works. The NFCSerivce.java has been modified to poll for NFC tags even while the screen is off. So if you use NFC and tags in various places but are tired of having to turn your screen on every time you want to use it this mod may be your ticket. It is a simple apk. file and all that is changed are some file permissions and locations so your not risking anything to check it out. The Nexus devices by design are pretty much unbreakable as far as software goes. You can always drop the thing and shatter it but hacking and modding it won't do any permanent damage as long as you stay away from the bootloader. So, check it out and report back. I'm curious to know how this affects battery life on the Nexus 4 so leave comments and let us all know if this is a worth while fix or not.
